Fish tikka

Here's a simple and delicious Fish Tikka recipe you can try at home:

Ingredients:

For marination:

  • 500g boneless fish (like salmon, cod, or basa), cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup thick curd (yogurt), hung curd preferred
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp mustard oil (or any cooking oil)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of kasuri methi (optional)
  • Orange-red food color (optional)

For grilling:

  • Onion, capsicum, and tomato cubes (optional, for skewering)
  • Butter or oil for brushing

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the fish:

    • Wash and pat dry the fish cubes.
    • Sprinkle salt and lemon juice over the fish and set aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Make the marinade:

    • In a bowl, mix curd, ginger-garlic paste, mustard oil, chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, kasuri methi, and food color.
    • Add the marinated fish cubes into this and coat well.
    • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for better flavor).
  3. Grill the tikka:

    • Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) or heat a grill pan.
    • Thread the fish onto skewers along with veggies if using.
    • Place them on a greased baking tray or on the pan.
    • Grill or bake for 15–20 minutes, turning once and basting with butter/oil midway.
    • You can also broil for a couple of minutes at the end for a charred effect.
  4. Serve:

    • Sprinkle chaat masala and lemon juice on top.
    • Serve hot with mint chutney and onion rings.

Want a version without an oven or grill? I can give a stovetop or air fryer method too.
